French Montana, fresh of 2019’s iHeartRadio Music Festival in Vegas, has dropped a trailer for his upcoming album, MONTANA, complete with a brand new song, which is slated to be the album’s opener. After dropping 9 blank images that had people (accurately) hyped for an Album announcement, the rapper followed through with the goods, unveiling a new music video directed by Kid Art, as well as info on the release.

The trailer shows off a huge range of French’s influences. The video opens with an old-school blues sample from Koko Taylor’s “I’m A Woman“, before busting into a hefty loop by long-time collaborator Harry Fraud that keeps that throws back to older hip-hop before a beat change busts the track into a more modern trap section, bringing back in that blues influence over the top. We can only hope this track makes it on to the album. That’s just the audio, too, French throws back to his Muslim heritage as he raps, flanked by burqa-clad women in red thigh-high boots, as it contrasts the grimy streets French got a start on with a gold-chained-clad, Rolls-Royce-driving French. Dingy and hard-hitting, this trailer certainly doesn’t abandon the French we know and love but it sure does feel a lot more gritty than the colourful smoke-bombs and whining codas of “Slide”, or the party vibes of “Wiggle It”.

The video’s launch was accompanied by a post from Montana featuring the Album art, showing the same dichotomy of burqa-clad women as the trailer.

The album drops in November, though we have no sign of a track-list just yet, but after the great year that French has had so far it should be a monster album.

You can catch French Montana any time on his iHeartRadio artist station, and don’t forget to like his page so you don’t miss MONTANA when it drops!
