Ginger Baker is hanging in there, despite a critical illness that has rendered him hospitalized, according to his family.

Baker's family announced Friday that the legendary rock and jazz drummer was in the hospital. They asked fans to pray for the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer.

On Sunday, the family provided a more promising update, announcing that "Ginger is holding his own & thank you for all your good wishes," a statement read. "He is receiving visits from close family & very special friends."

The musician has struggled with a number of health issues in recent years, including heart surgery in 2016.

Baker has performed live sparingly in recent years. In an interview this summer, he noted a "very, very painful" lower back issue, as well as arthritis in his knees and wrists which make it difficult to drum.

Baker is best known as the drummer for late-'60s rock supergroups Cream and Blind Faith, but he's spent the majority of his career playing jazz-based music and doing solo work.
