Pushy MIL Tells Son Not To Let Wife Get Epidural

December 10, 2019

The decision to get an epidural is SUPER personal – and generally left to the woman involved and her doctor. So imagine finding out that your hubs and and mother-in-law were not only talking about it...but that your MIL was trying to convince your hubs it’s a bad idea.

In a Redditpost, the anonymous mom-to-be shares that she was cleaning out her husband’s email inbox on his phone(we’ll leave that part alone)when she found a message from his mom about her. Her MIL said she “strongly believed” he shouldn’t let his wife get an epidural and that “as a mother, she’s supposed to be able to take the pain.” The mother-in-law also blames the couple’s older son’s behavior issues on the epidural his mom had and warns of the “long-term mental effects those drugs have.”

The mom-to-be was understandably furious, explaining that her two-year-old son is “hyper, healthy, and a little wild and stubborn, but he’s two!”She also points out that her mother-in-law had epidurals with all five of her kids and her daughters and other daughters-in-law did as well, so she’s not sure why she’s supposed to “take the pain.”

Some Redditors agree that the MIL was way out of line and it’s none of her business, while others suggest she not let the woman see her grandkids. Some people felt the hubby was to blame, but everyone had this woman’s back. And in an update, the mom-to-be shared that her husband was totally on her side and they’re cutting off contact with his pushy mom.
