Dove Cameron just inked her wrist for the love of her late friend Cameron Boyce.
For the Descendants star’s “24 Hours with Vogue” video feature, a series in which the magazine follows the day in the life of its guest star, Dove took viewers everywhere from rock climbing to her favorite tattoo shop, Ten Thousand Waves, where she planned to get her 11th tattoo in honor of Boyce, who died in his sleep from an epilepsy-related seizure at age 20 on July 6.
Before his untimely passing, Boyce was working to create an anti-gun movement with his organization Wielding Peace, which aims to use creative artistry to advocate for bringing gun violence to an end. Inspired by her beloved friend and her anti-gun beliefs, Dove’s latest tattoo — a revolver shooting out a rose — became meaningful in more ways than one. “It was really beautiful, and I’ve been trying to think of a tattoo to get for him since he passed,” Dove said of her new ink, “and I just felt that this one was really appropriate.”
In light of Boyce’s untimely death, Dove tearfully mourned the loss of her dear friend in an emotional Instagram video.
“My system is still in shock, my brain is still foggy and full of holes … Cameron was one of my favorite people alive in the world. Though I know that’s not unique to me, Cameron was magic — an earth angel,” she expressed at the time. “Goodbye, earth angel. I will spend the rest of my life missing and loving you and all the better for knowing you.”
