I had no idea John Wayne wore a toupee. He was a man's man in the Golden Age of Hollywood. He was the perfect movie star when men were men and Hollywood had real stars that influenced our daily lives! I just learned that he wore a toupee in his movies. He said he owed it to Hollywood to put on the toupee during filming, but when DUKE was home, he was not shy to show his lack of hair. He didn't care if people saw him without his toupee. He says wearing the toupee was like putting on Hollywood make up. It was just part of his movie persona. I love John Wayne even more now.
