Drake's latest single "When to Say When" has people in their feelings, but not in the way you might think.
On Saturday (February 29), the 33-year-old rapper dropped two new songs— "Chicago Freestyle" and "When to Say When." However, the latter track features a line that listeners have taken issue with.
“Brought a few Ws to the 6ix/ Baby mama fluke, but I love her for who she is,” Drake raps, referring to Sophie Brussaux, the mother of his 2-year-old son Adonis.
“Drake is rude as hell. … she gets pregnant, has the baby, keeps it a secret for you, takes the embarrassment when Pusha [T] revealed it, has never said anything bad about you…and she’s a fluke?!” one Twitter user wrote. Another added, "Drake said, 'my baby mama fluke.' Y’all do know these are the women raising your kids right?"
Despite the abundance of backlash, not everyone joined the bash Drake bandwagon, with many choosing to defend him and his honest bars instead. "Lol y’all on Drake’s a** for calling his baby mama a fluke? It’s his baby mama not yours. So definitely he knows something y’all don’t ... so y’all ain’t got no right to be pissed because at the end of the day he said what he said and he still beat. The game is the game," a fan tweeted.
Fans also pointed out that the dictionary definition of “fluke” — "an unlikely chance occurrence, especially a surprising piece of luck" — doesn't necessarily have a negative connotation.
Sophie and Drake welcomed their first child together, Adonis, in 2017. While the co-parents kept Sophie's pregnancy and Adonis' birth a secret, Pusha T revealed that Drake was a father on his infamous track "The Story of Adidon" in May 2018.
