Almost one hundred years ago, Walt Disney dreamed up the timeless character Mickey Mouse. Though Mickey was the character who started it all, the iconic mouse only just got his very own ride at Walt Disney World in Florida this week. Well, it's not totally his own. He shares ownership of the new ride with Minnie Mouse, of course.

On Wednesday (March 4), Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway finally opened inside Disney's Hollywood Studios park. The new ride is housed inside a re-creation of the Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, which used to be the home of The Great Movie Ride before Disney shut it down back in 2017.

Like Hollywood Studios itself, Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway is rife with nostalgia for the golden age of Hollywood. Guests enter the queue under a neon marquee, which leads them to the premiere of a new Mickey Mouse short called 'Perfect Picnic.' Soon enough, guests are brought into Mickey and Minnie's delightful cartoon world and whisked off on an exciting adventure.

In honor of the new ride's debut, the official Walt Disney World Instagram account shared the final attraction poster with their followers on Wednesday (March 4). The caption reads: "Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is now open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Check out the final attraction poster, then come burst into the cartoon world where Mouse Rules Apply and anything can happen!"

“The vibe is really timelessness,” Kevin Rafferty, show writer and executive creative director for the new attraction, told People. “And the love for Mickey and Minnie and the celebration of Mickey and Minnie. We’re touching on the history of the Walt Disney company and the heart and the feel and the love of that, combining that with new technologies and theatrical devices that allow us to immerse ourselves into a cartoon world and believe we’re actually there.”

“Mickey Mouse has a lot of history with the Chinese theatre,” Casey Collins, senior project coordinator at Walt Disney Imagineering, added. “His cartoons opened here back in the ’30s and ’40s, so it was the perfect setting to have the opening of Mickey’s next film, which is the attraction you get to experience.”

Like Epcot's upcoming Ratatouille attraction, Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway is a completely trackless ride. CNN reports the trackless ride vehicle makes the new experience "feel unexpected and unscripted." Another exciting aspect about this new ride is that there's no height requirements, so, all of your family members can ride with you.
