Jhené Aiko has released her third studio album, Chilombo, which also happens to be her legal surname, Jhené Aiko Efuru Chilombo.
Clocking in at 20-tracks, the LP includes the previously released tracks "Triggered (Freestyle)," "None of Your Concern" with Big Sean, "PU$$Y Fairy (OTW)," and "Happiness Over Everything (H.O.E.)" featuring Future and Miguel. Additional guest stars include H.E.R, Ab-Soul, Dr Chill, Nas, and John Legend. Aiko, 31, recorded the ethereal set in Hawaii, where her great grandmother was born. In addition to tapping into her family roots, she also played around with crystal alchemy sound bowls, which are commonly used during meditation and healing sessions — and it turned out to be a success. As per her interview with Billboard, the instruments can be heard on every cut on the set.
"I’m still in transition, but I’m still me. I still love to write all types of songs and listen to all types of music, but Chilombo definitely has a lot more acoustic instruments because I wanted it to be music that you can feel," she explained of the follow-up to 2017's Trip. "You can hear what the mic was picking up in the room. Everyone was playing actual instruments, [and] those resonate with you differently than digital. Chilombo is all of my projects that I put out prior to this combined. This is the baby — but it’s the evolved version."
Expect to hear a number of these tracks on "The Magic Hour Tour," which will take Aiko and special guests Queen Naija and Ann Marie around the country, beginning in Boston on May 1.
