Lil Baby is definitely a self-made man, but his journey to the top wasn't without some guidance.

While on The Breakfast Club, the 25-year-old rapper, who currently has the number one album in the country, spoke about his friendship with Young Thug, who he first met as a teenager.

"Thug went to [my high school]... he's like one grade older than me," the Atlanta native shared, before explaining how Thug tried to keep him out the streets by paying him to go to the studio.

"I was already going to the studio... he [was] on some sh*t like, 'You gon' make it rapping... [so] you can't be [hanging in the hood],'" the "Sum 2 Prove" rapper said. "He would call me and I would be in the hood... when we'd Facetime he'd see where I [was] at. And he'd be like 'damn, you're not at the studio.' But I [would be like], 'What the hell I'm going to the studio for?'

Lil Baby admitted that at the time, his mind couldn't see his full potential. "My mind wasn't where Thug's mind was at because I hadn't been through what I been through now," he told the radio hosts. "Now I appreciate everything he said and I understand what he was saying, but back then, [I wasn't listening]."

While Baby acknowledged that he didn't really listen to Thug's advice or take his offered help that seriously, Baby said "it still put something in [his] head." And while the "Heatin Up" rapper said "you can't fathom" the type of success he has now, Baby made it clear that he was grateful for Thug's early guidance.
