Online grocery delivery company Instacart has teamed up with Costco to deliver prescription drugs to patients who cannot leave their homes due to the coronavirus pandemic. The delivery service is available from 200 Costco locations in Arizona, California, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, New York, Washington, and Washington, D.C.
The two companies are planning to expand the service nationwide in the coming months.
Customers who wish to use the delivery service will receive a text message when their prescription is ready to be picked up. The text will contain a link to Costco's website, where they can choose if they want to have their medication sent to their home. They will also have the option to add other grocery items from Costco to their order.
The customer will not have to sign for their delivery, but they will need to provide their identification so the Instacart shopper can scan it before completing the delivery.
"We're proud to partner with Costco to make online prescription delivery possible for consumers during this critical time. With our total order volume up more than 400% year-over-year last week, and more people than ever turning to Instacart, we want to continue to bring all the aisles of the grocery store online to better serve customers," Nilam Ganenthiran, President of Instacart, said in a statement.
