Last week, NBC announced the cast of Parks and Recreation would reunite in an effort to raise money for Feeding America’s COVID-19 Response Fund. Not only will the original cast be reunited, they'll be reviving their characters in a scripted one-ff episode of the beloved sitcom. The special will air on Thursday (April 30) on NBC at 8:30pm ET. In a new clip promoting the new episode, Leslie Knope and Ron Swanson are doing what the rest of us are doing as we self isolate—catching up over video chat.
In the short promotional clip, Amy Poehler's Leslie asks Nick Offerman's Ron how he's handling life in quarantine. Ron, of course, has the most Ron answer of all time. “I’ve been practicing social-distancing since I was four years old,” he replies from his cabin. In addition to Poehler and Offerman, Rashida Jones, Aziz Ansari, Aubrey Plaza, Chris Pratt, Adam Scott, Jim O’Heir, Retta and Rob Lowe will reprise their roles, as well.
“Like a lot of other people, we were looking for ways to help and felt that bringing these characters back for a night could raise some money,” executive producer Michael Schur said in a statement. “I sent a hopeful email to the cast and they all got back to me within 45 minutes. Our old ‘Parks and Rec’ team has put together one more 30-minute slice of (quarantined) Pawnee life and we hope everyone enjoys it. And donates!”
“In such uncertain times, we can’t think of anyone better than Leslie Knope to unite our country with her unbridled enthusiasm and compassion,” said Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, Co-Presidents of Scripted Programming, NBC Entertainment. “A huge thank you to Mike Schur and the cast of ‘Parks and Recreation’ for putting this wonderful special together and bringing a smile to all our faces while raising money for such a worthwhile cause.”
NBC, the cast, writers and producers and sponsors Subaru and State Farm are giving $500K in matching donations to Feeding America as part of the reunion special .If you'd like to help the Leslie Knope and the rest of the Pawnee gang raise money for COVID-19 relief, you can head over to www.feedingamerica.org/parksandrec.
