Tim McGraw Readies Heartfelt New Single, 'I Called Mama'

Mother's Day is coming up on May 10 and Tim McGraw has the perfect song to make the day even more special. McGraw has announced his new single, "I Called Mama" is due out May 8.

The song, written by Lance Miller, Marc Green and Jimmy Yeary, serves as a reminder that simply the sound of a loved one's voice can be comforting during hard times. In the uncertain times we live in now during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the song hits listeners extra hard.

"On the one hand, this song is literally, ‘Hey, call your mom,'" McGraw says in a press release. "On the other hand, you look at a time like this, there are real hardships for everyone, and it’s a great reminder that hearing someone’s voice who knows you and loves you can help you get through anything."

McGraw also turned to social media to share the artwork for the single which is an old photo of his own mother. "Now more than ever, I’ve been reminded of the importance of human connection in our lives," he wrote in the caption. "'I Called Mama' is a song about connecting back to what grounds us when life shakes us up."

He adds, "We should all call Mama more often… or whoever those people in our lives are that keep us connected to what really matters. This song really hits home for me, and I hope it does for you, too."

"I Called Mama" will be officially released next Friday (May 8) but can be pre-ordered now. To go along with the song, McGraw also plans to released the lyric video featuring old footage of the country star as a baby.
