On Wednesday night (May 6), a wildfire began rapidly spreading in Santa Rosa County in the Florida panhandle. Hundreds of people were told to evacuate their homes including Jason Aldean and his family.
The country star's wife, Brittany Aldean, revealed on her Instagram Story a photo of the smoke in the sky. "We are ok, but evacuated. Thanks for all the messages," she wrote on the photo.
Two additional photos were added to Brittany's story including one of smoke rising over homes captioned, "pray for our beach" and another of the glowing orange fire taken from the road.
Jason and Brittany have been quarantined at their Florida home with their two kids, Memphis and Navy, along with Jason's two daughters from his previous marriage, Keeley and Kendyl. The country star himself has yet to publicly comment on the current situation.
According to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the wildfire broke out on Monday afternoon (May 4) and has grown ten times in size due to high winds and extremely low humidity. The 2,000-acre fire, named Five Mile Swamp fire, has destroyed multiple buildings so far.
"This is an extremely dangerous and fast-moving wildfire situation that is evolving rapidly, so everyone in the affected area should follow directions from state and local officials," Florida Agriculture Commissioner, Nikki Fried, said in a statement. "All residents and travelers should heed evacuation requests and closely monitor the media for updates on the wildfire and reopening of I-10 and local roads. We thank our brave local and wildland firefighters for working swiftly to control this wildfire."
The latest update shared on the Florida Forest Service Twitter account says the fire is 35% contained at this time and evacuations are still in effect. Updates on the status of the Five Mile Swamp fire can be seen here.
