Celebrities are honoring the life of George Floyd, an unarmed Minneapolis Black man who was killed by police.
On Monday (May 25), a video of a Minnesota officer kneeling firmly on George's neck as he lied face down on his stomach surfaced on the Internet. In the horrific video, the 46-year-old is shown pleading for his life and telling the four officers — three police officers looked on as one pinned George down — repeatedly that he could not breathe and "everything hurts." Despite his pleas, which went ignored, George remained pinned to the ground and fell unconscious. George was eventually taken to a nearby hospital, but, he died shortly after the incident.
On Tuesday, the four Minneapolis police officers were fired for their involvement in George's murder. "This is the right call," Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey tweeted in response to the officers' terminations.
As protesters called for justice in rallies and the many across the nation expressed their horror over yet another police-involved killing, celebrities and public figures joined the national cry for justice and voiced their outrage on social media.

This just burns. Seems to be a never ending cycle. The murderers need to be charged severely. Even in the face of death this man was given zero empathy. #RIPGeorgeFloyd #BlackLivesMatter #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd pic.twitter.com/gyuaoC6vUh

I don’t have the words. I’m sick and tired of this, tired of being sad about our people dying needlessly. Harassed and humiliated in these challenging times, I thought we could come to together, but it seems like this Coronavirus has bought out more racism in a major way. pic.twitter.com/vZpNHm9Zco

You deserved your breath, your dignity, your life. Not to die in the street, murdered by a white cop’s knee on your neck. You deserve our tears, our prayers, our rage, our action. We must act - for you - and for all of those were no cameras are present. We must. #GeorgeFloyd pic.twitter.com/JeMNUtkXv6
