Queen Elizabeth is keeping a close watch on her grandson Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton, according to a royal insider. With the Duke of Cambridge set to take the throne after his father, Prince Charles, Her Majesty wants to make sure the young royals aren't doing anything that might embarrass the monarchy.
On Sunday (June 14), Channel 5 in the U.K. aired a special about the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge called William & Kate: Too Good to Be True?, which took an in-depth look at the relationship between the future King and Queen of England. During the special, royal author Tom Quinn revealed the Queen is worried about any potential missteps William and Kate may make on their way to the throne. She doesn't want them to "repeat mistakes made by other young royals" in the past.
"The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, will be watching very carefully," Quinn continued. "Especially given that younger royals in the past have got things very badly wrong and they don't want that to happen again."
Quinn also shared a more light-hearted anecdote from the Cambridges' college days. As Quinn tells it, the future king of England tripped over his own feet while introducing himself to Kate for the first time. "One of the funny stories is he was so desperate to meet her that as he walked towards her, he apparently tripped and said, 'Oh that's a terrible start, you're going to think I'm a complete clot,'" Quinn revealed.
Ten years later, the couple was officially married. This year they celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, though, they were unable to do anything special for the occasion due to the coronavirus lockdown.
