J. Cole revealed he has not one, but two sons.

The private emcee, who quietly married his college sweetheart Melissa Heholt in 2015, first shared that he and his wife welcomed a son during an interview with Angie Martinez in 2018. Now, two years later, the “Snow On Tha Bluff” star revealed in a personal essay for The Players’ Tribune that he’s since welcomed another child.

In the write-up, published Monday (July 20), Cole recounted the moment in 2016 when he first learned he’d become a dad. “A couple weeks prior I learned that I would become a father. It wasn't a surprise. I had been taking steps to change my life for the past couple years, and I felt ready,” he recalled.

The Grammy winner continued, “Four years have passed. In that time I’ve been blessed with two sons, learned the delicate art of balance between parenthood and career, had the pleasure of working with a ton of talented artists as a featured rapper, spent 10 magical days recording a Dreamville album in Atlanta, and put a lot of time and energy into sharpening my sword and growing as an artist.”

Cole’s revelation comes a year after the rapper alluded to the arrival of his second child on the song “Sacrifices,” on which he raps, "She gave me the gift of my son, and plus we got one on the way.” The speculation of Cole’s little man’s birth hadn’t been confirmed until now.

The “Middle Child” musician spoke on whether fatherhood had changed in a March 2019 interview with GQ. “I changed my life in order to get ready to have a family and to have a son,” he responded. “I literally changed my life, where I was living, the things that I was doing. I changed. So because of that, when my son came, I was ready. I already made room."
