The Wendy Williams Show is heading back to TV screens in September.
On Tuesday (July 21), the long-running talk show announced that it will return to air on September 21 from its Manhattan studio. Until then, previously aired episodes will continue on air. Additionally, insiders told Variety that the in-studio audience will be no more, while much of the production staff will be on-set. "I can’t wait to get back to all of you and to my amazing staff and crew!!!" Williams wrote in an announcement. "I'm sooo excited to bring you silly, funny, glamour and hopefully brighten your day during these crazy times that we’re all living in…even if for just an hour. I miss you and can’t wait to get back in my purple chair and show you what we did to the set."
The Wendy Williams Show started filming from home after halting in-studio production in March. However, the show was placed on hiatus in mid-May due to Williams "complications involving symptoms of fatigue linked to her Graves’ disease." "Recently, Wendy has been dealing with symptoms from her Graves’ disease which is causing fatigue. In consultation with her doctor and as a precautionary measure, she will be taking some time off as she continues to receive treatment," a spokesperson for the show told Variety at the time. "We look forward to welcoming Wendy back soon and continuing the ‘Wendy@Home’ shows. More updates on a return date will follow."
Williams' upcoming 12th season marks the very first announcement of any daytime talk show to resume shooting in-studio since the COVID-19 shutdown. The show was renewed by the Fox Television Stations through Season 13, which will air through the 2021-2022 season.
