Duane "Dog" Chapman's wife Beth couldn't bring herself to look at the star before she died.
During his recent appearance on Facebook Live seres, Faith with Katie, Chapman, 67, recalled the end of his wife's life, where she knew he has given up hope. "They brought her out of the coma and I said, 'You're gonna go see my mom. You're gonna go see your daddy. And Bethy, you're gonna see Barbara Katie [his daughter who died in 2006],'" he recalled. "She would not look at me because all of a sudden she knew I had given up and I was her last hope."
Chapman, who recently proposed to his girlfriend Francie Frane 10 months after Beth's death, went on to confess that he had been mostly optimistic throughout her decline. "There was no planning. There was no, 'You're gonna die, Let's plan it. So what do I get? Where did you put the watch?' There was none of that," he remembered, adding that he would tell her that she's not going to die even though he doesn't understand the sentiment. "I wonder why they tell people when they're dying, "Don't worry. You'll make it through Christmas." They know you're not."
The star took to Twitter to announce Beth’s passing in late June 2019. "It’s 5:32 in Hawaii, this is the time she would wake up to go hike Koko Head mountain. Only today, she hiked the stairway to heaven. We all love you, Beth. See you on the other side," he wrote. During the weekend prior, Chapman was admitted to Hawaii's Queen's Medical Center and placed in a medically-induced coma amid her battle with Stage 2 throat cancer since 2017. She was laid to rest with a memorial service in Hawaii and cremated, as per her final wishes.
