A mother from Las Vegas said that her son's first day of online classes were marred by students smoking pot and watching pornography. The mother, who asked only to be identified by her first name, Jenny, told KTNV that her son had just logged into his virtual physical education class and was shocked by what he saw.
“There are a couple of students now smoking pot through their bongs. One student had porn on the TV behind him, which was in clear view of his camera," Jenny told the news station.
She said that teacher was not in the session at the time.
“I don’t know if the teacher was there in the beginning and then maybe lost connection or was just not in the class, but there was no teacher,” Jenny said.
She told her son to disconnect immediately and tried to contact officials at Sunrise Mountain High School but was unable to get in contact with anyone.
Clark County School District said they are investigating the incident and promised to take appropriate action to discipline the students involved.
That was not the only issue on the first day of online classes. Canvas, the platform the district is using to manage its virtual learning program, crashed because it was unable to handle the number of students and teachers logging in.
