Mariah Carey has broken her silence on her “extremely uncomfortable” experience on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Fans will recall when the iconic chanteuse appeared on a 2008 episode of Ellen DeGeneres’ daytime talk show. The singer, who was pregnant at the time, wasn’t prepared to reveal the news, however, DeGeneres appeared to pressure her into addressing the rumor that she and her then-husband Nick Cannon were expecting a baby.

Despite Carey’s objection, DeGeneres presented her with a glass of champagne to “toast not being pregnant.” As Carey faked-sipped from the glass, the 62-year-old announced, “You are pregnant!”

Sadly, Carey suffered a miscarriage just weeks after the episode aired.

As the “We Belong Together” musician recalled in Monday’s (August 31) interview with Vulture, she still doesn’t have fond memories of that experience today.

“I was extremely uncomfortable with that moment, is all I can say. And I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath,” the 50-year-old told the outlet. “I wasn’t ready to tell anyone because I had had a miscarriage. I don’t want to throw anyone that’s already being thrown under any proverbial bus, but I didn’t enjoy that moment.”

Looking back on that moment now, Carey said there is “an empathy that can be applied to those moments that I would have liked to have been implemented. But what am I supposed to do? It’s like, [sings] ‘What are you going to do?’”

The embattled talk show host has been embroiled in a lot of controversy in recent months, as her show recently ousted several top producers amid allegations of sexual misconduct, harassment, intimidation, racism, and myriad other damaging accusations.
