After an angry internet group tried to take down the Tanque Verde Tyrannosaurus rex, business management says that it isn't going anywhere.
The statue of the dinosaur that is in front of the McDonald's at Tanque Verde and Grant raised concerns in an internet group called Christians Against Dinosaurs on Facebook.
According to the page, CAD is a group that believes that dinosaurs never actually existed and that they are just a scam made up by scientists.
A member of the group took to the Facebook page saying, "Please help! This McDonald's has this dinosaur and refuses to remove it! This is in Tucson, Arizona. Call the manager and demand the removal of this blasphemy!"
However, restaurant management says that despite the complaint, the statue is here to stay. Lizzeth Alvarez, area supervisor for Dias Management Inc., which owns the franchise, said to Tucson.com, "Absolutely not. People really seem to like it. It's a landmark really."
The T. rex has been standing guard at the restaurant since it first opened in 1994 as a part of a dinosaur theme aimed at kids, and was inspired by the success of the first "Jurassic Park" movie.
In May, the dinosaur received attention after it was "masked up" during the coronavirus pandemic.
