It's official: Ed Sheeran is a proud father.
On Tuesday (September 1), the pop chart-topper broke his Instagram hiatus to announce that he and wife, Cherry Seaborn, have welcomed a daughter named Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran. "Last week, with the help of an amazing delivery team, Cherry gave birth to our beautiful and healthy daughter - Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran," the singer, 28, captioned a photo of a baby blanket and socks. "We are completely in love with her. Both mum and baby are doing amazing and we are on cloud nine over here."
Sheeran went on to ask for privacy as the couple adjusts to becoming parents, but made mention of a return back to the scene. "We hope that you can respect our privacy at this time. Lots of love and I’ll see you when it’s time to come back, Ed x," he concluded.
Word spread in August that the two were expecting their first child, but neither Sheeran nor Seaborn confirmed the big news. "Ed and Cherry are over the moon. They're very excited, but have kept things very low-key," a source told The Sun. "Lockdown was a perfect excuse not to be seen out and about too much, but things are getting closer and the excitement has been building so they have started telling friends and family. They’re just making the last of the preparations at home, and the baby is expected later this summer (in the UK)."
Sheeran wed his childhood sweetheart in a secret ceremony in December 2018. He confirmed the marriage in July 2019 in an interview with Charlamagne tha God and showed off the romance in his recent video for "Put It All On Me."
