Authorities in California have launched an investigation after surveillance video captured somebody in a Budget rental truck dumping bags of mail behind a salon in Glendale. The owner of the salon contacted the police after discovering bags of unopened letters and packages strewn across the parking lot.

“It happened early in the morning, 5:40, and it was a Budget rental — big truck — that backed up to the parking lot. And they’re like, slowly, one by one, they’re dropping the packages,” Lilia Serobian, one of the medical spa’s owners, told KTLA.

A few hours later, officials received another call that piles of mail had been dumped in an alley less than a mile away. Officials did not say if the same truck left the mail in both locations.

Authorities said that the person who dumped the mail did not work for the U.S. Postal Service. Omar Gonzalez, the Western Regional Coordinator for the American Postal Workers Union, told CNN he believes the mail was part of a bulk shipment that was handled by outside contractors.

Investigators are trying to determine who rented the Budget truck and where they picked up the mail.

A manager from the Postal Service collected the mail, which will be delivered as soon as possible.
