A Florida man is in custody after attempting to steal mail wearing only underwear, CBS12 reported on Monday (September 7).
Last Thursday (September 3), deputies responded to the 17000 block of S. County Road 325 in Hawthorne, Florida, according to a report.
A woman told deputies that she came outside and found 64-year-old David Dunaway taking mail out of her mailbox. She added that he was only in undergarments, the report said.
When the woman approached Dunaway, he yelled "incoherently" at her and tried attacking her while she was inside her vehicle.
"Dunaway swung at her through the car window, but only hit her with the stolen mail, according to the report. The woman drove a short distance away to put space between the two, but Dunaway chased after her," according to CBS12.
The woman withdrew a handgun and threatened to shoot him if he came closer, the report said. Dunaway then walked away down the street he lived on.
Authorities arrested Dunaway and charged him with burglary with assault or battery and resisting an officer without violence. He's still in custody with a $60,000 bond.
This isn't Dunaway's first brush with crime. In 1992, he shot a trucker to death; Dunaway was found criminally insane and later indicted on federal gun charges in 2013, WFTV reported.
"He is the son of famed Florida fisherman and outdoor writer Vic Dunaway, who died in 2012," the news outlet added.
