The state of Tennessee is reportedly expected to see a delay in peak fall foliage this year.

FOX 17 News meteorologists have released weather maps, which show time frames for predicted peak fall colors. As of Thursday, Tennessee is expected to first see peak fall colors in late October.

According to FOX 17 News' weather map, most areas in the Volunteer State are predicted to see peak fall colors between October 26 and November 2, while other areas are projected to see peak colors between October 19 to October 26.

Middle Tennessee has experienced an above average start to September, which has continued a trend of 62 days over 90 degrees, FOX 17 News reports. Several factors will need to occur for a vibrant fall foliage in the mid-state.

FOX 17 News Meteorologist Greg Bobos reports cool, low temperatures that stay above freezing and don't bring frost in September and October will play a key role in peak foliage. Brighter colors will also be enhanced by overcast days, FOX 17 News reports.

Middle Tennessee has reportedly seen 20.72" of rain since April, which is within a few hundredths of an inch from the average rainfall, and more showers in September may be necessary before foliage, FOX 17 News reports. A drier weather pattern typically follows color changes in the fall as warm and dry days help once the areas reaches peak foliage.

FOX 17 News reports an ideal weather pattern would include high temperatures staying on the warm side and nights staying brisk in late September and October. Fall foliage reached its peak during early to mid-November in 2019.
