In mid-October, the board game cafe that Cards Against Humanity opened seven months ago will switch names to adopt its new owner’s brand.

Canada-based Snakes & Lattes bought the Chicago Board Game Cafe, which will reopen October 14.

The cafe has been a setting for people to play board games and have international street food, particularly from Chef Aaron McKay, who will still be involved in the new cafe. Although Cards Against Humanity Co-Founder Max Temkin fielded accusations regarding workplace culture, the allegations were separate from the cafe, Eater Chicago noted.

“We wanted to put the cafe in the hands of a company with expertise in running board game cafes, expertise we did not have,” a spokesman for Cards Against Humanity said in a statement. “Given the pandemic, we believe this is the best way to give this magical place and its hard-working staff the best chance to succeed.”

Snakes & Lattes, a play on the name of the popular kids board game Chutes and Ladders, also operates locations in Toronto and in Tempe, Arizona. Its parent company aims to expand nationwide.
