Authorities have arrested a man armed with a machete who allegedly smeared satanic messages in blood on an Eastern Carolina University sorority house and nearby vehicle.
University Police Captain Chris Sutton said one of his officers was flagged down Sunday night and alerted of a man appearing to be in distress with blood on his arms and hands, WITN reported. Police located the man, later identified as 25-year-old Patrick Canter, nearby and were able to disarm him within minutes.
Police said Canter injured himself before smearing bloody messages on the front of ECU's Alpha Delta Pi sorority house and a resident's white Jeep. Sutton said the lacerations on Canter weren't severe but were enough to transfer blood on different surfaces, writing messages that were satanic and sadistic in nature.
The blood had not yet been confirmed as Canter's, Sutton said, but it was "obvious" from the cuts he had that it was his, according to The Associated Press. Canter, who WITN reported as being homeless, has no apparent connection to ECU. He received medical care for non-life threatening injuries before being booked into jail.
Sutton told WITN that Canter was charged with injury to real property and booked into the Pitt County Detention Center with a $1,500 bond.
