Kelly Clarkson reminded us this week why Selena is still the queen 25 years after her death.
On Tuesday, Clarkson sang the Tejana star's "Dreaming of You" as part of the Kellyoke segment on "The Kelly Clarkson Show." Each week she serenades her audience with a song of their choice.
This week Antonio from San Antonio picked Selena for the former American Idol winner because of how much the song meant to him, according to mySA.com.
"I've always identified with Selena's message of hard work, positivity and always being true to yourself. Even 25 years later, her music has always resonated with me and millions across the world, especially because it taught me a lot how to speak Spanish," Antonio said.
Being from Fort Worth, Clarkson had to shout out Selena's Texas roots: "Everybody loves Selena in Texas."
Clarkson absolutely slayed the 90s ballad. She's no Selena, but she keeps the song's light and dreamy quality. The only downside to Kellyoke is that Clarkson only sings part of the song, but a full cover of "Dreaming of You" would be the perfect tribute to the queen of Tejano music.
The song has a special place in the hearts of Selena fans because it was released on the album "Dreaming of You" after her death. That was the firth and final album she ever recorded.
