Regal Cinemas is temporarily closing all of its locations on Thursday (October 8) due to the lack of blockbuster movies, according to Miami Herald.

Its parent company, CineWorld, announced this move on Monday (October 5), saying that all 536 American locations and 120 United Kingdom will be shuttering its doors during the COVID-19 pandemic. Miami Herald said Regal is also the second largest theater chain the U.S.

In Miami-Dade County, South Beach, Kendall Village, The Falls and Southland Mall locations will close. The Westfork, Cypress Creek Station, Sawgrass, Oakwood, Plantation and Magnolia Place multiplexes in Broward County will also close since Regal owns them.

This announcement comes after the next James Bond movie, No Time To Die, was delayed from November 20 this year to April 21, 2021.

Many other high-profile movies and releases have been delayed, such as Marvel Studios' Black Widow and the ninth entry in the Fast & Furious franchise.

On top of that, people are seeking alternatives to traditional movie theaters during the pandemic, including streaming platforms and drive-in theaters.

Movie theaters in Miami-Dade County were given the green light from Mayor Carlos Gimenez to reopen on September 16 along with other indoor attractions like bowling alleys.
