Tunch Ilkin announced Thursday evening that he had been diagnosed with ALS, also known as motor neuron disease or Lou Gehrig's disease. His initial diagnosis was made at UPMC Presbyterian and then confirmed by the Cleveland Clinic.
He originally shared the news via an interview with The Bible Chapel, where he is a Pastor of Men's Ministry. That interview is below.
"I want to fight this thing.... I’m not going to lay down and take this lightly."
Tunch has vowed to fight this. He will continue as a commentator for Steelers broadcasts with Bill Hillgrove, Craig Wolfley, and Missi Matthews and with his daily show with Wolf on ESPN PGH Radio - weekdays from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Tunch is one of the best people I've ever known. He's worked tirelessly for Pghs homless, has been an impeccable ambassador for Steeler football, became a nationally renowned broadcaster, an in demand o-line coach & has always been a great family man. Best wishes to a great man https://t.co/umIrCSBkDO
