Klyde Warren Park Expansion Will Include Rockefeller Center-sized Ice Rink

October 14, 2020

The expansion of Klyde Warren Park in downtown Dallas is moving closer to becoming a reality.

The 1.65 acre expansion over the Woodall Rodgers Freeway will be called the Jacobs Lawn since Jacobs Engineering Group donated $8 million to the project.

The lawn will include a Rockefeller Center-sized seasonal ice rink. On Wednesday, the park installed a mini ice rink through a partnership with the Dallas Stars as a preview of what's to come, NBC DFW reported. During warmer months, the lawn space will be used for holiday markets, book fairs, and other recreational events.

The expansion will also include a three-story enclosed special events pavilion, which will be across the street from the Jacobs Lawn.

Construction on at the park is expected to start in January 2021 and be completed by 2024. The total cost of the expansion is expected to be $100 million.

“After all of the hardships with the coronavirus, this is something exciting to look forward to. It’s happiness. It’s going to help the physical, the mental and the social well-being of our community," Kit Sawers, president of Klyde Warren Park, told the Dallas Morning News.

More than 10 million people have visited the park, according to Jody Grant, chairman of the board of Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation.
