Though the popular Zilker Park lights event will be different this year, it will bring holiday joy to the Austin area.
The passes for the 56th Trail of Lights are now on sale for the 2020 holiday season.
The event will be open on select dates between November 28th and January 3rd.
James Russell, executive director of the Trail of Lights Foundation told KXAN that organizers were looking for alternative ways to host the event, such as drive-thru options, back in June as the COVID-19 pandemic was reaching its highest point and canceling many events across the globe.
"We started working with Austin Public Health on doing a drive-thru event, and the best way to do that to ensure safety, not just for our staff, but for the public that's going to participate in it," he said.
There will be three different kinds of passes: general admission, dash, and premiere night.
The general admission passes will cost $25-$35, depending on entry time. These tickets allow entry beginning at 7 p.m.
The dash passes will give visitors access to the lights at 5:45 p.m., and each car will receive a box of cookies and bottled water as well as a discount card for local businesses.
The premiere night passes for November 28th are $95 per vehicle and are limited. These are for opening night and include a box of cookies, bottled water, a discount card for local businesses, and a Trail of Lights commemorative Christmas tree ornament.
The passes cover any vehicle nine people or less.
