Drake’s kicking off the new year with a new album.
The Canadian rapper released a teaser video over the weekend announcing his next LP, Certified Lover Boy, will drop in January 2021. Drake delivered the news on Saturday (October 24) via his record label, OVO Sound — likely as a celebratory gift to his fans, considering the musician celebrated his 34th birthday on the same day.
“CERTIFIED LOVER BOY JANUARY 2021 @Drake,” he wrote along with a nostalgic one-minute video depicting that opens to a younger version of the emcee gazing up at a beam of light before reaching toward the sky — a call back to the album artwork he used for 2009’s So Far Gone.
From there, present-day Drake takes a creative walk down memory lane as he recreates several of his past album covers including Take Care (2011), Nothing Was the Same (2013) and Dark Lane Demo Tapes (2020).
Certified Lover Boy marks Drizzy's sixth full-length studio album after 2018’s Scorpion. (Earlier this year he dropped his Dark Lane mixtape, which boasted hip-hop heavyweights like Young Thug, Chris Brown and Playboi Carti.) The announcement has been a long time coming for Champagne Papi, who’s been keeping fans waiting anxiously for the effort after teasing us with several progress reports.
So far, Drake has only issued one track from his forthcoming record, the lead single “Laugh Now Cry Later,” featuring Lil Durk.
