Carl Lentz, best known as Justin Bieber’s former spiritual mentor, has been fired from his church.

According to a statement from Hillsong Church Global Senior Pastor Brian Houston, Lentz was let go from Hillsong due to “moral failures” and “breaches of trust."

In a press release published on Wednesday (November 4), Houston stated, “This action has been taken following ongoing discussions in relation to leadership issues and breaches of trust, plus a recent revelation of moral failures.”

“It would not be appropriate for us to go into detail about the events that led to this decision. Our focus at this time is to honor God and pastorally care for our East Coast church community as well as the Lentz family,” added Houston, who maintained, "I have no doubt that this is the right course of action.”

The 41-year-old New York-based Christian church leader rose to popularity for his connections to high-profile worshipers like Bieber, his wife Hailey Baldwin, and famous siblings Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner.

The “Holy” singer-songwriter, who once interned for Lentz at Hillsong, found refuge in living with the pastor in 2014 amid a difficult period in his life when Bieber was using drugs.

“I grieved very intensely over the whole situation,” Hailey recalled of her husband’s struggles in a 2019 Vogue interview. “I just wanted him to be happy and be good and be safe and feel joy. But I’m really proud of him. To do it without a program, and to stick with it without a sober coach or AA or classes—I think it’s extraordinary. He is, in ways, a walking miracle.”
