An iconic cafe is permanently closing one its locations this weekend after being hit hard by the pandemic. After nearly five years in business, the uptown Charlotte location of Amélie's French Bakery & Café will shut its doors for the final time at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 8. The cafe announced the decision Friday on its Facebook page.

"It is with heavy hearts that Amélie's French Bakery & Café announces the closing of its Uptown location. As is the case with many restaurants in Uptown, COVID-19 restrictions and businesses adopting a remote working model have greatly impacted the once-bustling Uptown location."

"For almost five years, it has been our honor to serve customers in Uptown," the statement continued. The largest location of Amélie's, the uptown cafe was the site of many parties and celebrations over the years, from engagements to baby showers. "Thank you for letting us be a part of your memories."

The cafe's other locations at NoDa, Park Road, Carmel Commons, and Rock Hill will continue to serve customers. Amélie's said that uptown employees have been offered jobs at the other cafes. They encourage customers to come by one last time to say goodbye.

"From all of us at Amélie's, we want to say thank you for your support and all of the Uptown memories. Merci!"
