Halsey Opens Up About Vulnerable New Poetry Book In Intimate Live Stream

To celebrate the release of her debut book of poetry, I Would Leave Me If I Could, Halsey treated fans to an exclusive live stream with Moment House on Tuesday (November 10).

While we all know Halsey has been honest and vulnerable in her music, IWLMIIC takes things even further as she shares moments and memories for the first time ever with fans.

“This is as honest as I could have possibly been,” she said during the stream. “I've given you parts of myself I’ve never told my parents or my closest friends.”

To start things off, Halsey opened up about why she decided to put out a collection of poetry instead of releasing the words in song form.

“The reason I wanted to write a book is that I feel like I had so much to say that I didn't feel comfortable saying it from my mouth,” she explained. “When you read it, you see yourself in it. Writing a book is performing to an audience of one and that's what makes this far more personal.”

As for some of the more personal topics Halsey explores in the book, she opened up about how it felt to publish poems about sex, sexuality, gender dysmorphia and more.

“There are certain things I cannot believe that are in there,” she said. There’s a lot of stuff about sexual assault, mental illness, body image, gender dysmorphia, gender identity... which I’ve never talked about.”

Halsey also gave fans a bit of fun trivia when she informed fans one of the poems, “Summer Fruit,” was actually titled “Watermelon Sugar” when she first wrote it a few years ago on her Tumblr page. “I did have to change the title... I did write it first though!” she laughed.

I Would Leave Me If I Could is available now!
