Luke Spiller of The Struts has been staying busy… like really busy. While the band just released its new album, Strange Days, last month, there is no slowing down this lead singer.
In a new interview with Marvin, Spiller revealed that he's been writing a musical unlike anything we've ever seen before. While we don't have a release for when we'll get to enjoy his work, Spiller opened up about what fans can expect from it — and it's pretty wild!
“I am writing a musical; script, words, music, lyrics, everything. I haven’t really spoken to anyone about it, but I can tell you that it’s set in the 1800s and is going to have like a little bit of a steampunk-y vibe,” he explained. “It involves magic, male prostitution, talking cats and flying Rolls-Royces.”
In addition to writing a musical, Spiller is also venturing into the art world and will hopefully be putting on his very first art exhibition in Miami at Art Basel.
“It’s oil paint on top of electric guitars. Gibson are gonna give me the pick of anything I want and I’m going to draw these patterns on them that I’ve been doing since I was a little kid,” he said.
Spiller also talked about how the band got the likes of Tom Morello, The Strokes' Albert Hammond Jr., and Robbie Williams on Strange Days.
“Every single feature apart from Robbie was done remotely,” Spiller said. “Upon recording 'Another Hit of Showmanship,' I was really interested to hear what he [Hammond Jr.] would do with it. The first thing that I heard was just amazing. It’s just dripping with his sound and personality, through those six strings.”
