Days after announcing it would close its doors for good, City Cafe in Murfreesboro has now said it will remain open. The pandemic hit City Cafe hard, and as a result the iconic restaurant had decided to close after 120 years in business. After their announcement, however, the community seemed to rally behind them.

"We love our community! We love our customers," owner Teresa Kellogg wrote in a Facebook post on the restaurant's page. "With you loving and continuous support City Cafe will live on!"

Kellogg continued, "We came into this business with the intentions of carrying on the amazing history of this establishment. We are truly honored to be the keepers of this chapter in and of history. The stories you all have shared with us about this Cafe warms our hearts and makes us try even harder to make your visit special so that you may continue to tell the stories to future generations."

The cafe owners had sed up a GoFundMe page to help support employees who were soon to be out of a job, but after the support they received, and their decision to remain open, they have adjusted the fundraiser to include saving City Cafe as well. As of Monday, it has raised over $10,000.

"You just never know what someone is going through in their life and how a show of love could actually change their life, possibly save it," Kellogg continued, addressing the community who rallied behind the cafe. "That's what we strive to do everyday for our customers ... and this past week you all did this for us!"
