A man drowned to death while trying to evade authorities in South Florida, according to Local 10.

Doral Police identified the deceased man as 30-year-old Gabriel Lozano. They said an officer tried pulling over Lozano around 2 a.m. last Friday (November 13). The Doral police officer said he noticed a stolen tag on the Toyota Corolla sedan Lozano was driving.

When the officer tried to make a stop, Lozano took off, according to police. The incident involved into a chase in the early morning hours. "Investigators said when he hit a dead end in the Northwest 14th block and Northwest 94th Avenue, Lozano bailed out of the car and jumped into a canal," Local 10 reported.

Authorities couldn't find the driver after establishing a perimeter in the area. Miami-Dade Police Department Homicide Bureau divers responded and recovered the Lozano’s body. Miami-Dade police said the investigation is ongoing.

Earlier this month, a man drove into a canal in Lauderhill following Tropical Storm Eta. Floodwaters and nighttime obscured the parking lot the driver was reportedly heading towards.

Authorities found a dead woman in a car submerged in an Alligator Alley canal. It took them some time to get to the vehicle because gators swarmed it.
