An iconic Boston bar that closed permanently earlier this year is auctioning off more than 1,000 pieces of sports memorabilia.
The Fours on Canal Street, located outside the TD Garden, is currently selling items on BidSpotter.com, including its large outdoor sign, seats from Fenway Park and numerous signed items, WHDH reports.
The bar will also begin auctioning off items sold by the Paul E. Saperstein Co., at 10:00 a.m. on December 3-4, the Boston Globe reports. Items up for auction can be viewed up-close during a public inspection, which will be held at 166 Canal Street on December 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and December 2 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Saperstein Co. operations manager Paul Cotto told the Globe that bidding is expected to go quickly on auction days, so potential buyers should get their bid in in advance. He said some of the most desirable items up for auction includes memorabilia signed "To the Fours" by Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots and Bruins sports heroes.
“There’s a Larry Bird jersey signed ‘To the Fours, best wishes, Larry Bird,’ " Cotto said via the Globe. And then there’s a jersey from McHale, which reads: “To the ‘4′s’ - Good luck - Thanks for the cold beer.”
The Fours on Canal Street shut down permanently on August 31 after 44 years of operation. The Fours has two other locations in Quincy and Norwell, which will remain open.
