It's officially Christmas time and one of the best ways to get that warm, fuzzy feeling is sitting down to watch your favorite holiday movies.
One holiday film that is an undeniable holiday staple was filmed right here in Colorado.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, starring Chevy Chase, was actually shot in Breckenridge.
Despite the 1989 classic being set in Chicago, Illinois, the cast and crew found themselves filming in Summit County.
A camera assistant on the film told Denver7 that the crew decided on filming exterior shots in Colorado since there would be plenty of snow.
But that March of 1989, there was no snow and the crew had to bring in ten truckloads of snow from the tops of mountains.
This was just before a snowstorm hit and brought 87 inches of snow to Breckenridge in just 5 days.
This made it perfect for the outdoor scenes, but there was so much snow that the crew couldn't film so they had to focus on an interior cover set that was built on the gymnasium floor of the Summit Middle School in Frisco.
Footage was shot throughout Breckenridge, Silverthorne, and Frisco.
The opening scene with the logging truck was shot on Highway 9, north of Silverthorne.
The Walmart where Chevy Chase and Randy Quaid's characters are seen shopping in the movie is the Walmart in Frisco.
The classic sledding scene was filmed at the Breckenridge Ski Area on Peak 8.
