Kelsea Ballerini Covers Shawn Mendes And Justin Bieber's 'Monster'

Kelsea Ballerini has shared a her own unique take on Shawn Mendes' new collaboration with Justin Bieber, "Monster."

On Sunday (December 6), the country star posted a video on Instagram of her acoustic rendition of the pop star's heartfelt single. "Very inspired by the new @shawnmendes record," Ballerini wrote alongside the clip, adding, "and loved this one immediately."

"You put me on a pedestal and tell me I'm the best / Raise me up to the sky until I'm short of breath," Ballerini sings. "But what if I, what if I trip? / What if I, what if I fall? / Then am I the monster? / Just let me know / And what if I, what if I sin? / And what if I, what if I fall? / Then am I the monster? / Just let me know."

The comments section of the post quickly filled up with positive remarks from adoring fans. "You sound so beautiful wow," one individual wrote, while another added, "There is not a song you can't sing 🥰."

In a recent interview with VMAN, Mendes opened up about how "Monster" came about and the meaning behind the lyrics. "It’s about how society wants to put celebrities up on a pedestal, but as much as they want to do that, they want to celebrate the fall. It was a time when I was really afraid of my industry and afraid of my craft and afraid of everything," he explained. "I didn’t have control. Everyone else had control over me. I think it just ended up becoming a metaphor for a bigger thing; that we all put pressure on each other as humans to be great, to be perfect."

"Monster" appears on Mendes' new album Wonder, which officially arrived on December 4. The new 14-track project follows up his self-titled record from 2018.

As for Ballerini, she most recently released a playful new remix of her single "Hole In The Bottle" featuring the one and only Shania Twain.

"They say don’t meet your heroes…unless your hero is Shania Twain…then meet her, known her and make music with her. She’s inspired me in every way and has become a mentor and friend and added some major sass and spice to ‘Hole in the Bottle’ the way only Shania could," Ballerini previously said in a statement.

"Hole In The Bottle" originally appeared on the country star's self-titled album kelsea, which was released in March of 2020. She also shared another reimagined version of the track on her latest album, ballerini.
