Two people were injured during a chairlift accident at an Eastern Washington ski resort, according to KOMO.
The incident happened last Saturday (December 5) at 11 a.m. at 49 Degrees North Mountain Resort in Chewelah. According to a release from the resort, a chair carrying two people broke from the lift line on Chair 1. The guests fell and sustained minor injuries, and reports didn't specify how long the fall was.
Ski patrol helped the guests after they fell and escorted them to the patrol room. Reporters said operators inspected the lift before running the chair, which safely unloaded the rest of guests. An investigation is underway by the resort itself.
This news comes as some ski resorts are opening with COVID-19 restrictions for the ski and snowboarding season.
There has been other incidents in Washington state involving accidents. Deputies said a couple "miraculously" survived an accident where their car crashed into a tree, ripped in half and fell 100 feet into a ravine. Two people were on their way to a rental cabin in the Glenwood area until their vehicle got stuck in snow. As a result, they spent two nights in the snowbound vehicle.
