Salt Lake City Is One Of The Worst Metro Cities For Package Thefts

Christmas is just around the corner and more Americans are receiving packages this year than ever before.
The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has forced individuals to stay at home. This has cause a major uprise in online shopping. In fact, 67% of Americans say they shop online more since the pandemic has started. This means that more packages are being delivered to homes.
Safe Wise did a study on major metro cities where package thefts run rampant and Salt Lake City made the list.
According to the study, Salt Lake was the fourth-worst city for package thefts in 2020. This is down two spots from last year's second place ranking.
San Francisco was the worst for package thefts for two years in a row.
Here are the top 10 metro cities where porch pirates strike the most:
- San Francisco, CA
- New Orleans, LA
- Austin, TX
- Salt Lake City, UT
- San Antonio, TX
- Columbus, OH
- Portland, OR
- Baltimore, MD
- Sacramento, CA
- Los Angeles, CA
This year's total theft number has increased by over 10% from 2019. This year nearly 50% of Americans have experienced a package theft.
Of this year's package theft numbers, over 75% of them have been during the pandemic.
