Get ready, Clevelanders.
The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo appears to be gearing up to install a zip line in the New Year.
The Cleveland Scene obtained documents showing that the “Soaring Eagle” Zipline Experience could be up and running by Memorial Day 2021, assuming construction begins as early as February.
The project will cost the Metroparks about $600,000 to $700,000 to install the 680-foot zip lines and purchase related equipment, according to the Scene. The working budget comes in at $700,000 to $800,000, the Request for Qualifications shows.
“Zip Line Rides are increasing in popularity,” according to zip line proprietor Soaring Eagle. “Over the last several years the number of zip line attractions in the United States has grown from only a handful in 2005 to currently over 300 (according to www.ziplinerider.com) and growing. This growing fascination with zip lines makes for a sure attention grabbing crowd magnet for attraction sites.”
It was not immediately clear how much ticket prices would be for the zip line at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, but officials aim for the attraction to appeal to family members, according to the Scene. Rather than a harness, like most zip lines, this one would cater to seated riders.
Zip line riders at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo can look forward to “unobstructed views of the Downtown Cleveland skyline and the Zoo below."
