Katy Perry’s real-life doppelganger Zooey Deschanel stars in the singer’s latest music video.
On Monday (December 21), the “California Gurls” musician premiered the visual for her new song “Not the End of the World,” which features an iconic cameo bit from the New Girl actress, who gets mistakenly abducted by aliens in an effort to save Katy from the earth’s destruction.
In the nearly four-minute video, the actual Katy appears in incognito athletic wear while pushing her baby stroller — carrying her and Orlando Bloom’s daughter, Daisy — past Deschanel, who is reading a newspaper on a park bench before aliens from far, far away blitzes her into their spacecraft.
Greeted by blue aliens who believe she’s the actual Katy, Deschanel plays up the pop star persona in order to ensure her safe return back to earth — which involves the actress channeling Katy's iconic music video looks from her Teenage Dream era.
Anyone who’s been a longtime fan of the "Daisies" singer knows just how iconic a moment this is as Katy and Zooey have played on the long-running joke of the two being total look-alikes over the years. (See photo below for obligatory pop culture gem, circa 2006.)
“Zooey deschanel as katy perry in not the end of the world lmaoooo Loudly crying face this is a pop culture moment,” one fan tweeted.
Another fan commented on YouTube, “Finally everyone has accepted this fact that Zoey does look like Katy or Katy does look like Zoey😁”
"Not the End of the World" appears on Perry's sixth studio album, Smile, which released in August. The album also includes previously-released songs "Daisies," "Never Really Over" and "Smile."
