Young Thug wants to face off against Lil Wayne in a Verzuz battle.
The “Go Crazy” rapper made this known during a recent appearance on Gillie Da King and Wallo267’s Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast. Speaking to the hosts, Thugger named Weezy as the person he’d have to be offered to step into the Verzuz ring.
“It would probably have to be like Wayne,” said the 29-year-old. “Because you got to think — we got to talk about influence. We got to talk about everything. It’s not just about no rap. Everything falls behind that s—t.”
He added, “You got to understand, as a rapper, as hip-hop artists, you can only go so far. I always just focused on the next level.”
A lot of hip-hop heads sounded off on the potential Verzuz on Twitter, with many arguing Thugger can’t compete with Weezy’s catalog.
One fan wrote, “Which of the Lil Wayne? Mixtape Wayne? Carter Wayne? Hot Boy Wayne Rockstar Wayne? Tunechi Wayne? He gotta be specific, cus fireman is bigger than anything Thug ever put out till today, and fireman is 17 years old. Thug should do a versus with Uzi or Kodak.”
“That’s a mismatch, Lil Wayne gon win hands down: only person Wayne should face in #VERZUZ battle should be either Jay-Z or Eminem,” another user insisted.
A Verzuz between Thugger and Weezy would certainly draw an audience, especially since it wasn’t too long ago that the two emcees seemed to be at odds.
"The first day he didn’t dap me up,” the “Check” star recalled of their first encounter. “Tried me. Now my feet hurt and I’ma real stepper. Left the pimpin’ hanging. He probably had them chrome hearts on.”
"I’m like, ‘Hey listen bruh, I’m never touching your hand again,” Thug remembers saying. “Just off of that. I’m a player, I’m a real player and I don’t give no f—ks. Nothing about me is a groupie, no nothing! You inspired me.”
