The Minneapolis Police Department reportedly plans to release body camera video of a fatal traffic stop shooting, which was the first officer-involved death since George Floyd's death in May.

Police told the Associated Press the man killed in the shooting was a suspect in a felony and died after an exchange of gunfire with officers Wednesday (December 30) in the south side of Minneapolis, which Chief Medaria Arradondo claims was initially began with the man shooting first.

Arradondo said the officers' body cameras were turned on at the time of the shooting and video footage would be released on Thursday (December 31) amid a state-led investigation into the incident. The shooting took place seven months after Floyd was killed while being restrained by Minneapolis Police officers, which led to national unrest and social justice protests.

The latest shooting also reportedly took place about a mile from where Floyd was being restrained at the time of his death, according to the AP.

“I want our communities to see that so they can see for themselves,” Arradondo said. “Please allow me, the (state) investigators, allow us the time, let us get the evidence, get the facts, so we can process this.”

Minneapolis Police spokesman John Elder said the incident took place at around 6:15 p.m. at a Holiday gas station while officers were undergoing a traffic stop, but did not provide details regarding the man's identity, including race, or the alleged felony.

Elder confirmed the man died at the scene and a woman in the car was uninjured. He also confirmed no officers were injured during the shooting.
