The Greater Sacramento region is to remain under the regional stay-at-home order after not meeting the ICU capacity criteria.

It was announced on Monday morning (January 4) that the region's ICU bed capacity was 10.1% as of Sunday, January 3.

The region's four-week ICU projection also did not meet the criteria needed to end the regional stay-at-home-order.

In order for a California region to be released from the order, they must have an ICU capacity at or above 15%.

Not one of the regions has managed to meet the criteria since Governor Gavin Newsom announced the new restrictions in November.

Just before the new year, the Greater Sacramento region was looking forward to their state-mandated stay-at-home order.

While Southern California and the San Joaquin Valley received news of an indefinite extension on their stay-at-home orders, Sacramento was optimistic thanks to a few good days for ICU capacity.

On Monday, December 28, the ICU capacity in the region had reached close to 17%.

But COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths have increased since then. ICU's in the Greater Sacramento region are currently 93% full according to CBS13.

The region's stay-at-home order was scheduled to expire on Monday, January 4.
