Around 100 party goers packed a mansion in Granite Bay on New Year's Eve, according to the Placer County Sheriff's Department.

Videos from the party posted on social media showed a large crowd of people celebrating without masks.

The celebration was in violation of the state's stay-at-home order which prohibits gatherings to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

The party took place in the gated community of Los Lagos Estates. The sheriff's department responded to a noise complaint but did not issue any citations.

"The deputies spoke to the homeowner and told them to keep it down," said public information officer for the sheriff's department Angela Musallam. "We weren't called after that initial contact. It was our first call. If we had to come out there several times, we would have issued citations."

Musallam said the party was in clear violation of the stay-at-home order but the department doesn't have the authority to enforce it.

Sacramento Mayor Darell Steinberg took to Twitter on Monday, January 4, to denounce the party.

"If you wonder why the stay-at-home order remains in place and our ICUs remain under strain, look no further than the party attended by about 100 people in Granite Bay on New Year's Eve, an event that showed blatant disregard for the sacrifices so many are making."

Placer County Public Health is advising people who attended the party or any other gatherings on New Year's Eve to get tested and stay home.
